Signs Your Well Pump Is Failing
From Five Star Plumbing Services IncA well pump failing is not the end of the world but it is something of a major inconvenience. However, keeping that in mind there are many warning signs your well pump is failing. At Five Star Plumbing, a residential plumbing company in Harford County, Maryland, we have worked with well pump issues for many years and want to help you find out all the best ways to detect a problem before you have a major failure. Let’s take a look at some tell-tale signs here.
5 Signs Your Well Pump Is Failing
1. Short Cycle
This will occur when there is a lack of air in the well pump system or the pressure tank is waterlogged. Well pumps should run at least a minute. If the running time is less, it is a short cycle. Accompanying the short cycle may be loud pipe noises or pressure fluctuations. Any or all of these symptoms can be a precursor to a well pump failure.
2. Presence of Air
Another symptom of a failing well pump is just too much air. If water comes out of your faucet like it’s a soda fountain, it is a pretty good bet that your well pump is on its last legs.
3. Low Water Pressure
You may notice your water pressure is a little lower than it has been in the past. You may have a stream of water, but it is not as robust as it has been in the past. The pump is slowly failing. The only question is when it will stop working completely.
4. High Electric Costs
If your well pump has to be running constantly to keep the water pressure up, it is setting itself up for a future failure. The result is taking money from you because of increased electricity costs. It can also be a sign of a hole in a pipe somewhere in the system too.
5. Strange Noises From Your Well Pump
When you hear strange noises coming from your well pump, it is a sign the pump is beginning to fail. A bearing could be wearing out or another moving part may be wearing down. It is a definite sign a replacement will be needed at some point.
